Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty

As I shared in an earlier post - Philippe, David, my dad, & me
took a day trip up to New York City earlier in June in order to
drop David off at the JFK airport for his flight back to Senegal.

Not only was it David's 1st time to New York, it was also Philippe's!
Here are some more pictures from our time on
Ellis Island & seeing the Statue of Liberty...

Mother's & Father's Day

Philippe & I were blessed to be able to spend both
Mother's Day & Father's Day with my parents this year.

Eric & Meghann, my brother & sister-in-law, hosted a family get-together
on both holidays, so here are some fun pictures from our time
with the Fenicles & the Addys

Somehow they heard about Philippe's amazing grilling skills, so they put him to work...
(don't worry, he's in his element when he's in front of a grill!)

and, he didn't disappoint cause
the meat was absolutely delicious!

David

David Bies is Philippe's best friend and
we were incredibly honored when he left his family in Senegal...

to travel to the US for the 1st time and spend a couple weeks with my family...

and most importantly, to be a part of our wedding day!

It meant so much to have him there with us &
I know Philippe was very grateful that David came all that way to stand up next to him,
representing a piece of home & everyone in Senegal who wanted to be with us that special day

Here are just a few pictures from David's time with us
as a sort of tribute to him...

The guys made the Senegalese dish, "yassa poulet", for the rehearsal dinner

With my family after the wedding

Unfortunately, but eventually, it was time for him to go back home to Senegal.
My dad, and Philippe & I took him up to New York since his flight
was leaving from the JFK airport.
This was David's first time in NY so we made a day of it
& spent time at Ellis Island & saw the Statue of Liberty

Merci beaucoup, David!

Mowing

You know you're not in Senegal anymore when there's green grass to mow!
This was Philippe's 1st time ever mowing a yard.

He loved it and was like a pro,
proceeding to cut the grass for my parents throughout the entire summer
while we were in PA.

He even taught David how to mow my parent's yard while he was in town

What a neat experience to witness -
bet these 2 Senegalese guys never thought they'd one day mow grass in the USA!

All I have to say, is better them than me... I already paid my dues in this area.

Lewes, DE

This was the last evening of our honeymoon

so we watched the ferry come in one last time

This week was a blessing in so many ways for us.
Thanks to those who made it possible for us!
We really didn't realize just how much we needed the time away until we were here.

One Day in Cape May

One day during our honeymoon, we took the ferry over for Cape May so I could show Philippe where I grew up going to the beach every summer.  We had a really great time & here are some pictures to prove it!
